Integrate with Paycycle, an Intuit US-Based Payroll System
Intuit is one of the largest and most ubiquitous business software companies in the US, providing solid business financial software through QuickBooks. And now, they have recently purchased PayCycle, a solid online payroll system that synchs with QuickBooks directly. Adding this capability to Xero would really enhance it's offerings in the US.
Thanks for everyone’s patience with this.
To be clear, Xero cannot integrate with payroll systems that don’t have API’s (that would be all the US payroll providers!). We have however, been busy working with anyone who will work with us on providing an integrated payroll solution with Xero, and we are delighted to announce ADP RUN has now integrated with Xero: http://blog.xero.com/2012/07/integrating-adp-pay-run-with-xero/

My programmer's serious family problems have been delaying him, but he integrated the AccountantWorld Payrtoll Relief Program with Xero. He should have the installer done and the program released within a week. It works through 10dollarpayroll.com to sharply reduce costs (around $15 a month for one employee) and provide excellent CPA tech support (you can have it now for QuickBooks). It also lets you automate monthly or quarterly payroll, including e-payments and e-filing. I did all my 2012 payrolls, for around 25 clients, with one Excel.

There really isn't any reason not to integrate with Paycycle. They have the best interface for payroll online in the US, and they have a giant SME customer base. I think this should be a no brainer. I know several people who would switch to Xero if they integrated with Paycycle. It would also make it easier for me to do payroll for them if it was integrated.
There are, of course, workarounds but I feel the whole advantage of cloud accounting is to eliminate the manual work. I really like Tobias idea for a short term solution, and hopefully in the long run there can be some sync negotiations between Paycycle and Xero. Does anyone from Xero have an update on this?
Thanks!

There's something called ATX Command Accounting that PayCycle allows you to export to, and it seems to have a nice XML format.
Alternatively, you could just take the Payroll Detail report that they give you (Excel format) and load that into a new Pay Run... it has all the details you need and it's a huge, error prone process to do it manually.

PayCycle (US) provides exports to accounting software like Peachtree and Microsoft Money... why don't you just evaluate those formats and use one of them to allow manual importing of the payroll data?

I still wish you would integrate with Paycycle. Who cares who owns them? You would hit a HUGE market in the US if you would integrate with them. But if not them, consider Sure Payroll, now owned by Paychex.

Hi Ronan: I contacted the top rated AccountantRelief / Payroll Relief, though I believe my programmers can easily do the integration. Among the good things with them is that you can buy a generic web page and unlimited payrolls for $997 for the first year, You also can work through me to use them via 10dollarpayroll. That lets a California CPA, who runs 10dollar, do all the work a full payroll service would do for only $13 a month. Even this can come down considerably with volume.

Hi Jason. We need payroll, but the last company Xero should integrate with is Intuit. QuickBooks is their main competitor. I will contact Catherine about quickly integrating a far better and cheaper U.S. payroll and 1099 provider.

Thanks Catherine. I did discover a PayCycle in Australia because a client told me about it. They thought Xero would integrate with PayCycle (in the US), but we were disappointed when we discovered it was an Australian company. Oh well. Thanks for keeping us informed.

Hey Jason, just to let you know that the recent integration with Paycycle that you may have seen on our blog (http://blog.xero.com/2010/02/aussie-payroll/) is with an Australian payroll provider and not Intuit's system that you've recommended here. We're still investigating potential US payroll providers - and anyone that you & others can lobby on our behalf would be very useful :)
Regards,
Catherine
