I'm a UK small business owner and developer, operating a hospitality business with approximately 50 employees, paid weekly through Xero Payroll UK.
We've developed our own PHP-based staff management system, which tracks employee purchases made on account (staff tabs) and calculates the amounts to be recovered through post-tax payroll deductions.
**Feature requested**
We need the UK Payroll API to support creating or updating deduction lines on individual draft payslips, including the deduction type and amount.
Ideally, this would work similarly to the Australian Payroll API, which already supports updating payslip deduction lines.
Alternatively, an API endpoint for employee deduction pay templates or a CSV/bulk import facility for variable deductions would be useful.
**Problem we're trying to solve**
Our system already calculates the correct deduction for every employee each week, but we have to manually enter those amounts into Xero's draft payslips.
Xero Developer Support has confirmed that neither the current UK Payroll API nor CSV import supports this functionality.
**Business impact**
With approximately 50 employees and 52 weekly pay runs each year, this creates up to 2,600 employee payroll records annually that potentially require manual review and deduction entry.
Automating this would save administrative time, reduce transcription errors and improve integration between our existing staff management system and Xero.
We would be happy to participate in beta testing or provide technical feedback on the implementation.
This seems like a relatively small but valuable addition to the UK Payroll API, particularly given that similar functionality already exists in Xero Payroll Australia.
