I added this at https://community.xero.com/business/discussion/9626220/ (Add an Enter key option for moving through fields when inputting data).

That is why I am now posting this to general Feature Requests.

Xero should not take this WRONG APPROACH, in this or other cases. Instead of saying that we posted this in the wrong place, MOVE IT to the right place. After all, QuickBooks has given us this popular option for MANY YEARS. This is especially important when substantial time and votes may not otherwise transfer.

Thanks for your continued feedback and patience on this long-standing request. Our team has started to build this out, and we’re looking forward to sharing more as development and testing progresses.

This release will support ingestion of bank statement data via the Bank Feeds API for accounts where a bank feed has not been established and allow customers to automate the current manual file upload process.

As part of this work, we’ll be running a beta with a small group first (from mid June) so we can test the experience and gather feedback before broader availability. We’ll continue to post updates here as we reach key milestones.

This suggestion is now almost four years old and has 174 votes. That makes it one of the most requested changes, but there is still no indication of when Xero may have it. Is there a reason why anyone needs this done with the API? If your statements are in CSV, IIF, QIF or equivalent format, I should be able to upload them quickly and automatically.

Our free 0CPAs Internet Explorer (not Xero) API program exports Xero rules to Excel. You need not use IE (I use Chrome). It is not a trial. This 0CPAs will always give you the fastest (2 lines a second) and easiest way to find and fix Xero errors (except for later very inexpensive versions, discounted for early users). Compare your rules to our sample and sorted Excel rule files (after and before), plus Excel files created for other companies, to make your rules far more comprehensive and generic (cover many new payees automatically).
    ...
I already gave a 0CPAs demo to several top Xero people. Simply Google 0CPAs for your free copy. It will do far more by XeroCon US (9/3-9/6/13)

The API is not suited to this purpose, this would need to be built in the main application in order for users to import/export. It could be exposed via the API also later on, but for now, the best place to show support for this functionality is in our community forum: https://community.xero.com/business/discussion/65371/

This forum is specifically for developer API functionality (exposing existing Xero functions through the API).

I would really like to better understand this response. In one day it got 10% of the votes that the top API idea got in 16 months (except the Expose Everything idea). Bank Rule data is in the Xero database. Most Xero add-ons read and write the exposed parts of this data. The API program only needs to read and write some simple hidden data. I could easily read - write CSV files 50 years ago. Calling Excel, from a program is trivial. We can probably write this with a keyboard macro script, so what is the problem in the API exposing bank rule data?

We need bank rule data in the Xero Add-ons API. Then we can have any developer give us the ability to copy bank rules between clients and create CPA, regional and international rlibraries of rules.

Here are recent Xero EDII posts, They show that Xero EDI will be a reality as soon as the first Xero user wants it.

Mike Block CPA • I had a long conversation with DiCentral about their EDI. They contacted me due to my posts in a related Xero EDI thread. I have been very pro-EDI for around 20 years. That is about when a U.N. Committee report said that using common business forms and EDI would save trillions of dollars a year (adjusted for inflation).

Here is an exciting summary of my DiCentral EDI conversation: they will give Xero EDI if they get even ONE Xero customer committed. I do not remember the exact initial setup ESTIMATE, but believe it was only around $500. The subsequent transaction fees also were shockingly low. I will gladly help anyone with this at minimal cost.

Ronan Quirke (top Xero Add-ons manager) • Thanks Mike, if all those interested in a DiCentral integration with Xero can vote and subscribe to updates here, I can use this to make sure everyone is kept up to date and show the interest level to the team at DiCentral: http://xero.uservoice.com/forums/28866-integration-with-other-products/suggestions/2986219-di-central-integration-with-xero

Mike Block CPA • Thanks very much Ronan. I am happy to have you jumping in. I thought of writing to you even before I posted, but it has been a long day (now 1:30 am) in a long week, month and year. However, please also post your comment to the Xero forums where EDI came also came up.

By the way, my U.S. payroll integrating programmer also has been having his share of problems. 106 degree temperatures are not good for computers or people, but he should finish this week.

declined  ·  Ronan Quirke - Xero responded

    Thanks for the suggestion!
Unfortunately we have no current plans to provide a “Surrender to MYOBAPI function!

That would be especially backwards when Xero is growing so fast and making businesses so efficient that MYOB may soon surrender to Xero.

We’re closing this request out and asking that developers suggest or vote for the specific features you’re after as it’s easier to get feedback to you on each request this way and also free up your votes. I’d like to reassure you we’re committed to offering the best API we can.
