Reclassifying an asset category
When an asset is reclassified from one asset category (e.g. R&D) to another (e.g. IP), currently, you must dispose of the asset and then create a new one. This is a data entry heavy process (especially if there are a number of assets to reclassify) and is also prone to error. It would be useful if there were a baked in function that made this process easier/quicker.

Your walkthrough of having to dispose of an R&D asset and then recreate it as IP highlights how Xero forces a double entry that can easily slip up when many items are involved. A https://coloradocompanysearch.us style interface that lets users switch categories while preserving the original transaction would eliminate manual disposals. Automating the transfer keeps audit trails intact and cuts the repetitive data entry burden. In practice this would speed month end closes and give accountants confidence in the accuracy of their asset registers.

Your description of having to dispose of an R&D asset and then recreate it as IP really highlights how cumbersome Xero’s current workflow can become when dozens of items need reclassification. A built‑in https://floridacompanysearch.us style utility that lets users simply change the category while preserving history would cut down the manual steps dramatically. By automating the transfer of depreciation schedules and linked transactions, the risk of mismatched balances drops substantially. Implementing such a feature would make large‑scale asset migrations far more reliable and time‑efficient.
