Import bank statement lines via the API
Be able to import bank statement lines into a bank account in Xero. This would be useful for custom bank accounts or banks that do not have a direct feed into Xero

Not having an API that we can utilise in the case where our financial institutions are not partnered with Xero, is crucial. Frankly, for Xero to assume that South African banks, for example, would like to integrate into Xero is the pinnacle of self grandeur. SA bank couldn't care less about Xero, since Xero doesn't really feature in the bigger scheme of things in South Africa.
We receive daily bank statements from our banks in various formats (SWIFT etc) and have the ability to process these files into a format that can manually be loaded into Xero. However, manually loading them into Xero is a useless exercise. We receive statement files from our banks every time a transaction goes through our bank account. We want to load the data into Xero as we receive the data. This simply cannot be done manually. The only option is an API which is not available.
Frankly, this is most probably going to cause us to seriously look at migrating away from Xero.
Looking at how many comments this thread has had since Jan 2021, I suggest you seriously review your stance on this point.

The sad irony about Open Banking is the removal of Irish banking institution feeds from Xero due to Brexit and the inability of the end user to utilise any API to plug the gap. This is wholly insufficient and we're currently looking at how to migrate away from Xero as we're exposed without any ability to move forward with either semi-automatic or fully automatic bank statement feed imports.

Irish customers are losing bank feeds due to Brexit, with Xero being registered in the UK.
Our site at https://tools.parolla.ie can convert bank statements to Xero readable format, but if I had access to an API endpoint that created statement lines it could also import the lines directly to Xero. -

I really would like this feature as I have several custom bank accounts e.g. suppliers who take an upfront payment and then chip away at that balance invoice by invoice. I need to account for this on Xero and I need to be able to upload the transactions so that I can manage this money.

Hi guys,
I think this feature is critical to automate and simplify the bank statement import process in HOUNDRED of countries and THOUSAND of banks. I hope you could develop ASAP.I´m Xero Partner since 2014 and live and work from Argentina. In Argentina we have more than 200 bank and financial instiutions. Only 1 has API. The rest does not and they do not have plans to have API. In the rest of LatinAmerican countries happens the same and I bet in many other countries is the same.
Xero Partners around the world need this API to help their SMB client.

Need this to reconcile Visa Commercial cards, as you don't have a feed available for Intellilink Spend Management

Hi
We have made an app that assist an accounting firm and large team to import statement, manage tasks for transaction and reconcile them,
this feature is very important for us to automate since Xero design has limitation and we can't achieve this goal without API

Hi there, I believe the use-case is very clear, almost every bank allows you to export OFX, CSV bank statements, however, why would e.g. overseas banks operating on markets with no Xero market presence wanted to use your API? Open API would resolve the issue.
