Adding custom fields to contacts is a smart move, especially when you need to track case-specific or legal reference details efficiently. It helps keep records organized and searchable without cluttering core contact data. For those managing legal research or case follow-ups, resources like https://webcrims-ny.org can complement your workflow by providing structured public case information. Aligning custom fields with the data you regularly reference can save time and improve accuracy across your contact management process.

Adding custom fields is a smart way to capture details that standard contact records often miss. It also helps teams track property-related notes and reference data more clearly over time. For those managing valuation or record-related information, resources connected with https://putnamcountypropertyappraiser.org can offer helpful context. This approach keeps data organized and supports more accurate follow-ups later on.

You can add custom fields to contacts by using the contacts API (or your CRM’s interface) to define additional attributes. These fields can store extra information like preferences, tags, or internal notes and are usually included when creating or updating a contact.

Hi everyone, we thoroughly appreciate your engagement and sharing how contact custom fields would be advantageous to you here.
Some may find the addition of Notes that can be added within the Contact Details section of a contacts record useful in being able to record and view specific detail relative to a contact at present - https://developer.xero.com/documentation/api/accounting/historyandnotes
We'll continue to evaluate the viability of top voted ideas such as this when there is resource, however this unlikely in the next 12 months.

It was an unpleasant surprise that custom fields are not possible, even worse that this request has been open for nearly 10 years :(

Desperately wanting this. I don;'t understand how core customisation of fields in basic data objects like this isn't seen as something highly useful as it makes the system much more customisable to different use cases

it shows in xero in the help section how to create a new heading:
In the Business menu, select Settings.
Under Features, click Custom Fields.
Click New Custom Field.
Under Custom Field Types, click Select next to Heading.
Give your heading a name.
Select the appropriate areas in Practice Manager where you want to use this heading.
Click Save. This is great - however when I go to the business menu, and select Settings, the isn't the option for custom fields under features.
Has anyone worked out how to do this yet?
Keeping everything crossed for a positive response.
Thank you -

Also, If this unique identifier can be auto generated by Xero, that would be great. In Xero practice manager, client details URL shows a specific numerical identifier for each client, but this is only shown in the URL. For XPM users, this could be the identifier that links with customer contacts.

+a for this suggestion. Having a common unique client identifier would allow us to use it across all other systems and document management.

I am looking for custom fields or tags on Contacts in order to properly integrate my medical invoicing software with Xero. I need to be able to retrieve, create & maintain them through the API. Xero users should be able to see them when viewing contacts, but I have no need for Xero users to be able to maintain them. Ideally I guess the creator should be able to set which custom fields/tags are visible to users, as some may be required for integration only (say, sync-status or id).

Additionally the mobile phone field should be attached to the multiple, but individual contacts for a particular company.
The mobile phone line is in with the main business information and a cellular phone is unique to the individual. It should be attached to the name and title of the individual within a company. -

I CANNOT EMPHASIZE TOMYOU ALL ENOUGH HOW CRITICAL this option is.
It has been far too long since this was a thought of creation and mothers are far too many people who have expressed interest in this piece. This must be fast tracked in the API. We beg of you. -

1. Important for me to be able to store both Trading Name and Business Name for my wholesale customers.
2. Having the option of adding other custom fields would make it easier to sync my customer data between my CRM, my website and Xero. If I can create matching custom fields in all systems then (even if the integration isn't perfect) it's a simple CSV export/import to keep everything backed up and up to date.

+1 from me... would be really useful as we have to record extra details (basically just a couple of registration numbers) about customers for HMRC compliance reasons and I'd rather have these details in the one place.

Yes this would be good. I would love it so I could add different site address for a client. Thanks
