Critical for our billing process...

Many of our customers use software to extract the detail from a pdf invoice in to their accounting system. We use the API to create invoices automatically on the 1st of each month so it is critical that the PDF invoice is attached to the automated email. We can do this with a manually emailed invoice so why not via the API???

Our clients ask for this feature all the time.

We send 50+ invoices a week that require a PDF, so what should be the push of a button from our scheduling app is turning into a whole lot of extra work that is making it tempting to switch back to quickbooks who had no issue doing this.. This change will make or break if we continue using Xero as our business grows

Very surprised this isn't a feature, considering how many companies need an attachment for their own automated processes.

Without this feature it makes an otherwise automated process, manual.

Unsure where the complexity or reluctance is to implement this feature, given it's possible via the dashboard, but please implement this so we can have a full end-to-end automated process and focus on other parts of our business.

I'm surprised how this isn't a stock standard feature when emailing an invoice to a client through the api. I have to sit and manually download pdfs and share them.

We also really need this or at least a workaround

My client works with many property management companies and they also require PDF to be attached to the email. Can we please add this feature to API as soon as possible?

Please implement this folks, including the ability to select the email template too. These are critical features for a good customer experience.

Had another customer complain about this today. How hard can it be!

It means that our invoices don't work with Xero's own features.

I would imagine Xero could allow developers to pass some kind of "attach_pdf" param to this API call:

POST https://api.xero.com/api.xro/2.0/Invoices/[id]/Email

It would also be cool if you could specify which email template to use.

In the meantime, I resorted to querying the Xero API for the invoice pdf and the online invoice url and then sending the email through my connected app. It was a pretty simple workaround. Not only does my email have the PDF attachment but it's also styled much nicer than the plain old default Xero email template.

It seems madness that a PDF can be attached via the app but not via the API. This is impacting my workflows using a third party scheduling app which sends invoices, and when my clients receive them without a PDF they are unable to process. I then need to manually send them a copy, which costs me time;

Same as others have mentioned below -- our clients need the PDF attaching directly to the email and don't accept links in the email itself

Critical, as any invoices are emailed via the API to customers using SAP are rejected as don't have a the PDF attached

This is a critical API for us. We are looking to Email Invoice with PDF, and we're surprised this functionality isn't available.

We're using the invoices endpoint to (1) create and (2) email invoices to clients of accounting practices (our own customers). We get repeated requests and complaints that the email invoices don't include the PDF version attached. This is very problematic for their clients since they build workflows around this that required an attach file.

When accountants sent the invoices manually through Xero's UI, they simply ticked the box Attach PDF. But when we use the API to trigger the same operation, we have no way to attach the PDF, pretty strange that this wasn't built from the get-go.

I hope this gets prioritised soon.

This not being possible seems like an intentional omission considering it's available in app and is a pretty basic core feature. I hope I'm wrong and this gets added, but given this thread is over four years old, I don't have high hopes

This feature is critical to us as not having it slows down our invoicing process significantly, resulting in a negative impact to our companies cashflow.
