Lets make the integrations with client details seemless
Challenge:
We love using Xero there are so many pluses! But…we also use add-ons which integrate with Xero. When information is pushed and pulled through, if our clients have misspelt their company name, or even written Limited as Ltd (or vice versa) it creates a whole new client in Xero even if the client currently exists (eg.if purchasing tickets through Eventbrite). We have three integrations going so this can happen three different times and for our administrators and accounts team…a logistical nightmare .
Solution:
I’m pretty sure a code can be developed that recognizes elements in a company name (or even ignores such elements as Limited & Ltd when pushing and pulling)and automatically merges the details or identifies possible double ups and highlights these to action a company merge by accounting staff before approving an invoice.
This could be activated as an extra column in the draft area of Sales>Invoices?
This development then could be given to all add-on partners to add as part of their code?
Just an idea which could make life a whole lot easier for everyone :)

allow ItemID to be specified when adding line items
It seems to be possible to supply the ItemCode but not the ItemID. I guess the ID is unique for each item? It would be really great in my opinion if the API could be consistent and the ID field was always used to specify a join whenever you are creating or updating anything.
Consider the following use case:
A web app with integrations to xero to do all of the invoicing, and inventory price management. Contacts (users), orders (invoices) and products (items) are stored in the app, but also created in xero. The app then stores the xero id for each one and uses this when it makes calls to the xero api. When a user (contact) creates an order (invoice) it builds up an xml request with the invoice data, contact id and line items containing item ids and posts it to xero.
I understand it would be possible for the app to just store the ItemCode instead for products. However, if someone working with xero was to change one of the item codes then it would break the entire integration.
It would also make things a bit predictable if specifying an ID always just worked™ for relations in any of the API requests.

Match prior period treatment in Profit & Loss to Balance Sheet with regard to toDate parameter
Per the documentation for Profit & Loss periods, the only way to always get a full month of data for previous periods is to start in a month with 31 days.
Given we have a 30 June year end this is a pretty annoying workaround.
The confusing thing is that setting up the Balance Sheet in a month with 30 days doesn't result in this issue and prior periods will automatically show the 31st day where applicable.

Reconciliation API
It is very important to add an API that would allow us to pull the reconciliation data in order to connect it to our customized platform where we can add more AI logic which will make reconciliation much faster and easier.
We can pull all bills and invoices, and it would be great if we can integrate the reconciliation of Xero in order. this way our developers can implement the logic that works for our business6 votes -
Allow API Access to run the Bank Reconciliation Report
In lieu of being able to interact with the Bank Feed information directly via the API - it would be useful to be able to run the Bank Reconciliation Report directly from the API.
The use case in mind is:
I would like to set up a proactive notification when there are incoming amounts that are not reconciled in Xero in order to prompt someone to go in to Xero and manually reconcile those items. This will help prevent our customers from getting automated invoice reminders when they've paid.
We're not at the point yet where someone is in Xero everyday to see the incoming payments - so an email notification I can customise (in terms of frequency, content, etc) would be really useful.

Allow Paging for Journals GET
Please consider adding Paging for the Journals GET.
Journals represent a considerable size of data when extracting for e.g. a full financial year.
Alternative solution could be filtering options.
It would be beneficial to be able to either FILTER for a range of data or PAGE the data (for timely returns from the web service). The modified-since and offset options only allow for smaller, recent datasets, not for smaller ranges of data from for e.g. the previous year.
Eg.

assign item to project
Ability to assign items to a project is currently missing in the API, which makes Projects API totally useless to us.

Connect multiple Shopify store feeds from one organisation
Lots of business have multiple Shopify stores, buy at present we can only use one feed from one shop.
This means we still have to manually input data from one store and can't upscale using the system.
I am sure there are many other retailers with a similar problem.6 votes -
Be able to filter by items inside a list. e.g. Filter invoices by Line Item's Tracking Category
Be able to filter by fields inside an object which has lists. Such as Invoice's Line Items.
These fields contain important information such as tracking category, amounts, totals which would be a good functionality if one is able to filter using these information so to create more detailed reports6 votes -
Validation Errors: important additional info isn't provided
Can you rewrite logic about ValidationException handling?
For example, if several invoices will be posted to Xero and one cause validation error, no way to understand which invoice caused the error.Xero.Api.Infrastructure.Http.XeroHttpClient -> HandleErrors:
var data = JsonMapper.From<ApiException>(response.Body);
Here error response provides detailed information about who and why caused the errors.
But during deserialization it just takes all validation messages and saves them to array without any other really important information.6 votes -
Add total discount on invoice
My client need to add total discount on entire invoice rather than giving discount on each item.
This would be great if we have such option.
Thanks

Make Receipt updatable via API
The documentation says:
PUT Receipts
The PUT method is similar to the POST Invoices method, however you can only create new receipts with this method. It would be great if I was able to update receipts with the PUT method.

have an option to change the default view on 'My Xero' homepage to show only specified grouped or favourite files.
Our firm uses ledgers for tax work which is making the 'My Xero' homepage very cluttered and time consuming to find files. I have created groups however each time you navigate back to the homepage, all files are showing.
Can you please create an option that allows you to choose which groups are showing on the homepage?
6 votesAs this forum is for developer API functionality requests and yours relates to something that would need to happen in the main application, I’m afraid we have to decline this suggestion, but don’t take it personally – we would still love to see you make your suggestion in the Xero Community forum: https://community.xero.com/business/

When creating an Invoice via the API, can we get the IDs of each InvoiceItem returned in the response
When creating an Invoice via the API - we receive a response that includes the Invoice and the Lines - but each line does not have its Xero ID. As such, we need to do a subsequent API call to grab the Line IDs.
Without this we don't have a way to EDIT Lines on an Invoice and essentially are deleting all Lines/re-adding these.
Receiving the Line IDs would allow better management of this outside Xero.

enable creation of invoices from accepted quotes via API
Once a quote has been ACCEPTED it would be very useful to then turn this into an Invoice via the API, as per the manual user task of pressing the "Create Invoice" in the Xero web portal.

Add 'Where' queries to Quotes API
Where queries allow more advanced filtering of data and would be nice for quotes considering its on the majority of endpoints currently

Include pagination for inventory items
Currently the GET /Items API method does not support any pagination request parameters.
This implies that we have to get all Items in one API call if we want to read all items, for instance during an initial historical sync.
This is highly inefficient and will lead to issues for Xero accounts having a lot of items.Adding pagination parameters will help to reduce the payload returned by this API method, which I believe to be in the interest of both Xero and the Xero API users ...
Thanks in advance for looking into this.

Allow Invoice only users to use the API
As seen on this link: https://developer.xero.com/faq/permissions#user-permissions , currently only standard users can use the API, however, this makes no sense for my use case, and this is probably the same for other people.
Right now I'm trying to build an app that will automatically create invoices and email them to the contacts, however, I do not want to connect a standard full user to my application, as the returned access token will have full access to all my banking account statements whereas all I need I to create a Sales Invoice, which could be done with a "Sales Invoice only" user that does not have unrestricted access to all my data.
