  1. Query exchange rate through the API

The exchange rates are automatically calculated in Xero and not available for query. I want to use the same exchange rates in a third-party software (otherwise the reported money amounts will not match), so I need a way to query the exchange rates that were valid on a certain invoice date.

  2. calculate exchange rate automatically for foreign payments

Currently when entering a payment for an invoice in a foreign currency I need to enter the exchange rate. Generally I have to final AUD value and the final USD value, so would prefer the fx rate is calculated automatically.

In addition, it seems the fx rate has limited precision; I end up needing to put in manual adjustments when reconciling which is also a pain.

  3. API to set exchange rates

Create and API entry point to set default exchange rates, just like we do on the Settings page.

Rational: here in Poland, we're obliged to use the Polish Central Bank exchange rates on accounting. Having an API for it makes it possible for us the call it once everyday to set the rate for the next day. Without this we're not able to use Xero officially for bookkeeping. (we have to setup the rates for this whole calendar year!)

  4. return exchange rates for calls from the invoices endpoint for foreign-currency invoices

Can we have the exchange rate returned when returning invoice information for foreign currency invoices using the invoices endpoint?

  6. Be able to overide a currency rate for an invoice raised in a foreign currency

In the app you can override the currency rate with your own. Would be great to do this with invoices generated via the API as I get my rates from another provider (ie. not XE)

  7. Allow invoices to specify tax amounts in a separate currency

UK VAT law requires that invoices present VAT amounts in Sterling, even when the invoice is in a separate currency. As a result, it's possible to have a Euro invoice with Sterling VAT amounts. (See VAT Guide 16.4 and 16.3.1). Obviously when charging the customer, these have to be converted to Euros and the total expressed in Euros, but the business owes VAT in Sterling, not Euros.

Currently it's only possible to specify a single currency per invoice; now, if it were possible to stipulate the exchange rate to be used, that might make matters better, but in general…

  8. Increase rate limit (or allow details to be included in invoices, etc)

This is especially important for an initial sync of a new customer with our product as we need every invoice in the database (including the PDFs, which we are happy to trickle into the system over time).

  9. use Contacts' tax details on invoices

This almost seems to be a bug, since the Xero web interface works differently than the API.

In the "Tax" section for a Contact, the help message states: "Each account you code an invoice to will have a default rate as specified in the Chart of Accounts but if you have specified a rate for the Contact here, this rate will override the default rate from the Chart of Accounts."

This works when adding an invoice using the web interface, but adding an invoice using the API results in the wrong tax type and wrong calculated total.

  10. show more detail on GET TaxRates

Specifically the tax rate components that make up a tax rate i.e. the name, the rate and compounding indicator, this is very useful information for our application

  11. Add Paging on Credit Notes Endpoint

At present when a GET is performed on the Credit Notes end point, the LineItem elements are not returned. On other endpoints this issue is alleviated with the option of Paging, which when used returns all elements.

At present we are forced to GET a list of list of all Credit Notes that have been modified since the last GET and then loop through each Credit Note making an API call for each individual Credit Note just so that we can get the LineItems. The issue with this is that we are often exceeding the 60 second rate limit.

    If…

  12. Modified date on product items should uodate when the on-hand quantity changes

When you change something simple on a product item (say the description) then a request for modified since returns this item.

But if the stock in-hand figure changes (because you've sent an invoice) then the modified date doesn't change and this item isn't returned in the atli query.

So, in effect there is no easy to tell (via API using modified dates) when the stock on- hand has changed. You would have to load all items every ten minutes to know what the current in-hand stock is... And then you would get rate limiting issues.

  13. SIE file report/export

SIE is a universal data format to exchange accounting information between different systems.

Our auditor prefer having a SIE4 file, which he would import into his own system, to do the final revision and making necessary documentation for the government. W/o this file he has to tap in the data manually, which takes more time and cost us more money.

We would like to add the SIE file format as an alternative for export.

  14. Create API to get information from Inventory reports (sales by item)

I would like an API which tells me the same information as I can see in the Sales by Item report, this would mean I can see how much I sell in a month, or selected dates, of a particular item.

For example I have an item called hourly rate I would like to GET the total invoiced in the month for hourly rate

  15. Idempotent requests

At the moment, its rather difficult to recover from a network interruption that happens when you send the request to Xero API, and you loose the connection before you receive the response from Xero. There is a fair number of reasons why this could happen at any time.
In such a situation you really have no way of knowing if your request was even sent fully, or if it was received by Xero, nor what was Xero's response.

This is not specific to Xero, as all APIs out there have this same problem, as its simply how the web works.

  16. Be Able to get Contact Usual Payment Days

It would be good to be able to get the usual payment days number which is shown in Xero's contacts page through the API in order for displaying that data in in house software used to rate customers payments against their established payment terms.

  17. Ability to access Practice Manager staff billable rates

It would be really useful to be able to access (and ideally edit) staff billable rates via the Practice Manager API.

Many other fields can be accessed via the Staff endpoint:

    https://developer.xero.com/documentation/api/practice-manager-3-1/staff

This would be a really useful addition.

  18. CreditNotes: Add GET filter by CreditNoteNumbers Similar to Invoices functionality

Invoices has a filter of InvoiceNumbers. But this functionality is missing from Credit Notes even though Credit Notes are basically a negitive invoice. We need to be able to query for the status and existence of Credit Notes but keep hitting our API rate limit. We are using an WHERE OR statement but it's slow and we cannot check more than a few credit notes at a time.

  19. Be able to extract via API bank balances in Base Currency or in Foreign Currency of Bank Account

Currently API can only get bank balances in Base Currency from Reports -> Bank Summary. This means it is all converted into the Base currency by XE.COM. There is no way to convert this back into the original currency, XE.COM rates are not available vis the API. There should be a way of getting the bank balance in the origin al currency.

  20. Be able to have number of days billable in the invoice recievable template

I run a equipment hire company and use xero to itemise and invoice the equipment hired out. The quantity field works well but i supply equipment over a number of days at a day rate. It would really help to be able to specify how many days any quantity of equipment was hired out for. In theory its just another quantity field called DAYS. Please Please Please. :)
